Police on Thursday charged a Durham man with trying to solicit sex from someone he believed to be underage in an Internet chat room.

Joseph Manantan Azada, 33, of 4706 Hoppers Drive, is charged with indecent liberty with a child, solicit a child by computer to commit an unlawful sex act and disseminating obscenity to a minor under age 16. He has been released on a $50,000 bond.

Cary police began an online sex sting two months ago, with an investigator posing as a 14-year-old girl, Capt. Michael Williams of the Cary Police Department said.

Azada is alleged to have sent inappropriate material to the undercover officer and to have tried to arrange a meeting for sex.
