Durham police were investigating two shootings Monday morning. Each sent a single person to the hospital, police said.

The calls came within minutes of each other around 6:30 a.m.

Police were first called to Massey Avenue at Fayetteville Street, south of the Durham Freeway. A 44-year-old man was found sitting in the driver's seat of a car with a gunshot wound to his head. He was listed in critical condition.

Minutes later, another 44-year-old man told police he was sitting at a stop light at Fayetteville and Umstead streets when a man came up to his vehicle, demanded money, took his wallet and shot him in the shoulder as he pulled away. That victim's injury was not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Police said any connection between the two incidents had yet to be determined. They asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
