Durham fire displaces 2, injures firefighter

Over 48 firefighters responded to the call, which was made more difficult by an energized power line that fell near the property.

A house fire Sunday afternoon in Durham displaced two residents and injured a firefighter.

According to the Durham Fire Department, over 48 firefighters responded to a fire on the 500 block of Woods Street.

Firefighters found smoke from a the building and a car on fire next to the building when they arrived.

The fire department said an energized power line to the building fell on the ground and created a hazard for the firefighters. Duke Energy disconnected the line.

The two residents who were displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross. The firefighter was treated for minor burns on his hand by Durham EMS at the scene.

The building sustained substantial heat, smoke and water damage and the vehicle was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
