Dunkin' Donuts shooting in Chapel Hill: Employee injured, suspect charged

One person injured after shooting inside Chapel Hill Dunkin'

A Dunkin' Donuts employee has been arrested and charged with shooting a coworker in Chapel Hill Friday on East Franklin Street.

The incident left one employee injured and another in custody, according to Chapel Hill police.

Police arrived on the scene around 2:47 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting at 1509 East Franklin St.

Wesley Shamar Higgins, 23 was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Discharge weapon into occupied property
  • Discharge firearm in city limits
  • Assault by pointing a gun (two counts)

Authorities took the victim to UNC Hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Higgins is being held at the Orange County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.

His first appearance in court is scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m.

The victim has been treated and released from the hospital.
