A school bus carrying 15 children was involved in a crash with a dump truck and another vehicle in south Charlotte Wednesday morning. None of the children were seriously injured.

Kenny Phillips, MEDIC Operations Supervisor, spoke at the crash scene on Sharon Road at 8 a.m. He said emergency responders arrived at the scene after 6:30 a.m.

According to Phillips, crews were able to get the children out of the bus and quickly assess their injuries, which were minor. The children were taken to a local hospital in a mass casualty bus they could all fit inside.

The driver of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school bus and the dump truck were both pinned when crews arrived.

Firefighters worked to rescue the drivers while the medical team assisted the children. Firefighters said it took 30 minutes to remove the school bus driver and an hour to remove the dump truck driver.

Both drivers were surrounded by metal due to the high impact crash, officials said. Both drivers were conscious and stable when they were pulled from the vehicles.

Limited information was available about the third driver.

Officials said there likely wouldn't be any charges.

Mecklenburg EMS retweeted photos and video of the crash before 7:30 a.m. The photos showed a school bus with a shattered windshield and what appeared to be a construction truck with equipment and debris covering the road.

Angie Washington, who lives in the area, told a reporter at the scene she heard a big boom and looked out her window.

"I saw all the children getting out the back of the bus and I ran down here," she said, describing the scene as horrific. "Kids were crying, they were a little hysterical."
