Your Duke Energy bill could be going up soon – and you have an opportunity to voice what you think about the potential rake hikes at a public hearing on Monday night at the Durham County Courthouse.
Duke Energy has proposed rate increases that would happen in increments over a 3-year span.

Your bill would go up 10% in January 2024, then up another 4% in 2025 with a final 4% increase in 2026.
If approved, the hike could cost a typical home nearly $26 more per month by 2025.
Jeff Brooks, a spokesperson for Duke Energy, said the extra revenue revenue generated from increased rates will go toward strengthening the power grid and transitioning to clean energy.
Brooks said 75% of the spending plan for the next three years is focused on strengthening the grid -- to make it more resistant to outages from severe weather and to make it more secure and more resilient.
"We recognize that costs are up everywhere right now, and we're sensitive to that," said Brooks. "But this is a critical time for our state and making these investments now are going to be essential if we're going to achieve our carbon goals in the future."
