A driver is on the run after stealing a car and leading authorities on a chase across Johnston County Monday.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assisted Highway Patrol in the pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office said a deputy’s vehicle was hit at the end of the chase in a field near the 400 block of Fellowship Church Road near Princeton. Authorities said the deputy fired his weapon after the patrol car was hit.

No one was hit by gunfire, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the driver of the stolen vehicle ran from the scene.

The sheriff’s office placed the deputy on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
