A 70-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday to involuntary manslaughter in a fatal 2021 car crash that killed a 10-year-old girl in Harnett County.

A judge sentenced Ronald Alphonso Fox to 30 months of probation, court documents show.

Danay Sierra Allen died in the April 12, 2021, crash on Spring Branch Road in Dunn. Police said the 10-year-old girl was trying to get a dog that ran into the road.

Fox had several charges dropped as part of his plea, including felony death by vehicle, DWI, reckless driving and serious injury by vehicle.

Dunn police said a 2010 car driven by Fox was traveling at a high rate of speed on Jackson Road, ran up on the sidewalk and across a dirt lot before hitting the girl and her mother's car.

On Tuesday, WRAL News spoke with Danay's uncle Dennis Moore and her grandmother Jean Moore.

"I think there was more love in that little girl than I think I have ever seen in any child," Dennis Moore said.

Dennis Moore called it a "horrific loss."

"I don't know what I was expecting, but it was certainly not probation," Dennis Moore said of Tuesday's ruling.

Jean Moore echoed the same sentiments.

"We all miss her daily," she said. "Our happy place was always the beach with Danay."
