Driver killed after crashing along I-40 ramp to Wade Avenue

A man was killed Tuesday after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed along the on-ramp to Wade Avenue from Interstate 40, authorities said.

The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. and responding police officers found the wrecked vehicle crashed into a nearby tree, according to a written statement by Raleigh police.

Police identified the victim as as Peter Richard Marsh Jr.

He was rushed for treatment to WakeMed, where he died, police said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the man to lose control of the vehicle.

Video from the scene showed a wrecked blue sedan that appeared to have crashed into a nearby tree or come to a rest at the base of the tree.

The on-ramp reopened shortly before 5 p.m. following a police investigation into the crash.
