Driver found shot to death in Roanoke Rapids

An investigation of a vehicle crash in Roanoke Rapids early Friday has turned into a homicide investigation.

Police received a call at about 12:15 a.m. about a collision at 4th and Madison streets, and officers found an unconscious driver in a vehicle. When paramedics arrived to help, they discovered Rynell Tyreek Gaines, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, had been shot and was dead.

No other information was released.
