Driver crashes into apartment building, meter boxes in midtown Raleigh

A driver crashing into a meter box and apartment building caused a domino effect that ended with a resident calling police and reporting the sound of an 'explosion' in Raleigh on Sunday morning.

According to police, the call came in at 5:59 a.m. Officers found a car hit a meter box, causing damage to the metal boxes and surrounding brick of an apartment building on Navaho Drive.

There did not appear to be any injuries, according to police; however, the driver of the vehicle appeared to have fled the scene of the crash, leaving their vehicle behind.

Police were still investigating, and it's unclear yet if any arrests of charges will be made.
