Michelle works in the Kids Department but likes to venture into adult land every now and then. She loves all things YA, fantasy, romance, and social justice but can be talked into reading just about anything. She is a self-proclaimed Book Dragon (Google it!) and loves blissfully showing off and reorganizing her treasure trove of books.

Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin, Daniel Salmieri, illustrator
Just like dragons, I also love tacos, and now after reading this book, I can lure my favorite mythological creature to my house to be my BFF. You will laugh out loud while reading this book to your family and friends! (Ages 3 to 7)

Spreckle’s Snack Surprise by Sandra Salsbury
If Spreckle and I have one thing in common, it is knowing the importance of the perfect snack. Unlike me, poor Spreckle is struggling to find hers. I adore this cute, silly picture book, and I think you will too! (Ages 4 to 8)

Dragons and Marshmallows (Zoey and Sassafras #1) by Asia Citro, Marion Lindsay, illustrator
Zoey and her cat, Sassafras, help magical animals (a sick dragon) using the scientific method in this exciting early chapter book. The perfect start to series books for young readers and their parents. (Ages 6 to 10)

The Tea Dragon Society by K. O’Neill
Greta rescues a dragon while walking home one day. When she returns the dragon to her owner, Greta finds a passion for a fading art along with new friends. If the sweet story wasn’t enough, O’Neill’s illustrations are magical and captivating. The perfect book for your coffee tea table. (Ages 7 to 11)

How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell
Think you don’t need to read this book because you’ve seen the movie? Think again! This hilarious novel is sure to delight readers of all ages. Follow along as Hiccup tries to become a hero. (Ages 8 to 12)

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Could I have a dragon-themed Take Ten without The Hobbit? Maybe, but my coworkers threatened bodily harm like the harm Smaug threatened Bilbo and the dwarves with if I didn’t include it. If you haven’t read this yet, what are you waiting for?!? (Ages 12+)

Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
Seraphina offers fun new take on the dragon genre with the heart and angst of a teenager struggling with their identity. An adventurous tale filled with romance, courtly mystique, and espionage. (Ages 12+)

Eragon by Christopher Paolini
The book that started my love of dragon-filled fantasy! An epic adventure about a boy and his dragon. Full of magic, growth, danger, and more. Perfect for those being introduced to fantasy or who want to revisit this old favorite before Paolini’s newest, Murtagh, releases in November. (Ages 12+)

His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik
Join the Aerial Corps with Captain Will Laurence and his dragon buddy Temeraire as they get a crash course (emphasis on the crash) in aerial battle during the Napoleonic Wars. An engaging tale for those who love great historical fiction with a twist. (Adult)

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Don’t be intimidated by this behemoth of a book. It is a beautiful masterpiece of fantasy and adventure
with dragon riders, dragons (duh), and a whisper of romance. (Adult)
