Officials with the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) announced Saturday that big hits including "The Little Mermaid" and "Les Miserables" will make up the venue's 2017/2018 SunTrust Broadway season.

Most of the shows, which come straight from stages in New York, were selected from the top-performing shows on Broadway right now. Others were made famous in London’s West End and in Australia during new tours.

The new SunTrust Broadway season is named “Ten Great Years” to mark this season as the tenth year that New York's best Broadway shows were brought to the Triangle.

“We’re really proud to announce this new season and our hats are off to the Nederlander organization in New York who have really delivered the hits,” said Bob Klaus, DPAC General Manager. “From Broadway’s recent top-ten shows to brand new national tours and international hits, our tenth season of SunTrust Broadway will be one of our best ever.”

The full SunTrust Broadway schedule includes:

  • Sept. 12-17. 2017: Circus 1903
  • Oct. 17-22, 2017: The Little Mermaid
  • Oct. 31-Nov. 5, 2017: Love Never Dies
  • Nov. 28-Dec. 3, 2017: School of Rock
  • Jan. 2-7, 2018: On Your Feet!
  • Jan. 30-Feb. 4, 2018: Les Miserables
  • April 3-8, 2018: The Color Purple
  • May 1-6, 2018: Waitress

And, back by popular demand, "The Phantom of the Opera" will return for two weeks, Feb. 28-Mar. 11, 2018 as part of the Greatest Hits of Broadway encore series.

Special package deals for season ticket holders (ranging from $20 to $60 a month) go on sale starting Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. More information about those tickets and about tickets for individual shows can be found online.
