The Downtown Raleigh Alliance has hired a new president and chief executive officer who is expected to take over next month.

David Diaz signed on to replace former Alliance head Nancy Hormann, who resigned in October from the private-public partnership that has worked to revitalize the Capitol City's downtown.

He will be involved in several ongoing projects, including the new convention center and a new building that will house headquarters for RBC Centura Bank.

Diaz comes from Roanoke, Va., where he headed Downtown Roanoke Inc. and the Roanoke Foundation for Downtown, two nonprofit groups similar to the Alliance.
