After a blast of negative advertising hit Bob Edmunds' Supreme Court re-election bid last week, a group with ties to other conservative independent campaign spenders is airing a catchy jingle on behalf of the Republican justice.

"Tired of negative ads?" asks a gentlemen about to get into the shower when the ad starts out. "Judge Bob Edmunds is a good guy. He's keeping it honest, fair and clean."

The ad then goes on to feature a series of people singing a catchy doo-wop tune in praise of Edmunds, featuring plenty of visual puns on the word "clean," including people washing dishes, doing laundry and, of course, singing in the shower.

Much like the "banjo ad" from 2012 that supported Justice Paul Newby's re-election, this ad features a catchy tune and lyrics designed to drive home name recognition.

The ad is credited to Fair Judges, a group that organized on Sept. 16, according to IRS records. It has not yet reported any spending or fundraising, but it uses addresses and administrators in common with other conservative nonprofit spenders. Like other politically active nonprofits, it's not allowed to coordinate with the Edmunds campaign but has more freedom to raise and spend large chunks of money.

It's unclear how widespread the ad will air in the state. It first aired in the Greenville market, but FCC public files for stations in the Raleigh market do not yet reflect airtime purchased in the Triangle.
