Wednesday is World Blood Donor Day

Wednesday is World Blood Donor Day as blood centers around the world work to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products.

A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system.

The global theme of World Blood Donor Day recognizes the selfless people who donate blood that saves the lives of people unknown to them.

The middle of June is a critical time for blood centers in the U.S. Typically in the summer, hospitals see more traumas, which increases the demand for blood.

It’s essential that there’s enough blood on the shelves for any patient at any given time. Since blood cannot be manufactured or replicated, it's important that people take the time to donate.

To celebrate World Blood Donor Day with local blood donors in the community, The Blood Connection is giving blood donors an exclusive bonus gift on Wednesday only, in addition to the daily donor gift.
