Dogs rescued from Durham apartment fire; no injuries reported

Three apartments were damaged in a fire in Durham on Tuesday.

The Durham Fire Department said crews were dispatched the Mews Apartments, at 1801 Williamsburg Road, at 4:15 p.m.

There was heavy fire on both floors of a two-story building, fire officials said.

The fire had started in the kitchen, officials said, and was determined to be accidental.

The fire was under control in about 20 minutes. Two apartments had heavy fire damage, and another unit had smoke damage, officials said.

Eight people total were forced out of their homes.

Two dogs were rescued, including a small black one that was rescued from a unit that was filling with smoke and was reunited with its owner, officials said.

No injuries were reported.
