Dismissal delayed after reported threat at Raleigh middle school

Students at West Millbrook Middle School were dismissed later than normal Tuesday after police were called to the campus to investigate a bomb threat.

Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the school, at 8115 Strickland Road, at about 1:30 p.m.

Students were evacuated, and law enforcement officials searched the school's cafeteria and gymnasium. Once those spaces were searched, students and staff were allowed back inside while authorities searched the rest of the campus.

The search concluded at about 3:15 p.m. No explosive devices were found, Raleigh police said.

Due to the search, school buses left the school later than normal and parents were delayed while trying to pick up kids.

Wake County Public Schools posted several updates about the incident on Facebook.

"All bomb threats are taken seriously. We investigate each bomb threat fully and pursue hoax reports with criminal prosecution," the system wrote online.
