Diner fare with a twist at Jack Tar in Durham

Located in the ground floor of the Unscripted Hotel, Jack Tar and The Colonel's Daughter is serving up more than just traditional diner fare.

Yes, there is breakfast served all day (including made to order crullers). But you can also get items including roasted bone marrow, served with a sweet and tart red onion jam and freshly baked crostinis.

With a modern design, open kitchen and diverse menu, Jack Tar is a perfect fit for the trendy hotel.

The current menu also includes a fresh salad dubbed Autumn Lettuces topped with sliced apples, kohlrabi turnips, Goat Lady gouda and tossed in a tart cider vinaigrette. The richness of the gouda balances really nicely with the tartness of the apples and the dressing.

One of the standouts on the seasonal menu is the Piedmontese Ravioli Plin. The pasta is stuffed with beef and veal, then topped with brown butter, sage and parmesan. The result is a savory delight.

The North Carolina crab cakes are filled with meat and topped with a creamy bearnaise sauce and served over a cheese pumpkin and potato hash. It also isn't the only North Carolina seafood on the menu. North Carolina wild shrimp and grits and fried wild catfish are also menu favorites.

One of the stars of the menu is the Pumpkin Chiffon Pie, which comes with a homemade whipped topping. The restaurant is also serving up a North Carolina Limbertwig Apple and New England Cranberry Harvest Pie. Both are available by the slice and can be ordered for the holidays.
