Investigators said a Sanford woman stole a social-security number belonging to a person in California and used it to get a job.

Petra Alonso Mozo, 29, of 213 E. Weatherspoon St., faces one felony charge of identity theft, said Sgt. Chris Perry, of the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.

The victim reported the identity theft to the Redwood City Police Department on March 1.

Detectives believe that Mozo had been using the victim's social-security number to gain employment since 2007.

Mozo was released on an unsecured bond. She was scheduled to appear in Pittsboro District Court May 12.
