St. Patrick's Day Parade returns to Raleigh for the first time in 2 years

Downtown Raleigh is getting its rhythm back with bands, costumes and so much green.

“Now we finally get to celebrate with everyone else and we are having a wonderful time,” said Gene Luc, parade attendee.

For two years, Raleigh's Saint Patrick's Day Parade was canceled by the pandemic. Even when it returned this year – storms threatened.

Jim Stubanas could feel the wind in his hair.

“It is hard to keep it neat, you know,” said Stubanas.

He told WRAL News he's a quarter Irish and 100-percent happy to be enjoying the downtown parade again.

“We are so glad to see it coming back alive again since the pandemic is beginning to wind down,” said Stubanas.

This event was among the first canceled by covid in 2020 and again in 2021.

Even this year it had to be delayed, just a half hour, to let nasty weather pass.

Brian Casto wanted to be here for the return of the parade.

“We were watching the news this morning and it said it is going to go on rain or shine.” said Casto.

Like so many lining the parade route, he said his family really needed this.

“The last two years have been kind of a drag,” said Casto. “We want to get things back to normal.”
