Days of music, food, culture mark return of Bimbé festival
The Bimbé Cultural Arts Festival returns this week to Durham with four days of music, food and family fun.
The festival is presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina in partnership with Durham Parks and Recreation and sponsored in part by WRAL.
Four days of Bimbé
The celebration begins Wednesday night with a community block party at Holton Career and Resource Center Athletic Field, 401 N. Driver St. in Durham.
Book Harvest will be giving away books and free haircuts will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis from 5 to 7 p.m.
On Thursday night, Durham's CCB Plaza will host Bimbé Cypher at the Bull, a creative showcase for youth to rap, sing, make beats and create community. It’s group therapy through hip hop! Kevin “Rowdy” Rowsey, recording artist, writer, actor and educator will host.
Teens ages 13 to 18 can splash down Friday at the Bimbé Teen Pool Party, at Campus Hills Pool, 2000 S. Alston Ave., on Friday evening. There will be games, music, food and give-a-ways.
The main event is Saturday's 52nd Annual Bimbé Cultural Arts Festival, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Rock Quarry Park, 701 Stadium Drive.
Enjoy a day filled with live music, arts and crafts, ethnic food, local talent and a family fun zone.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, but leave the coolers, alcohol and pets at home.
