Knightdale woman's days-long wait for help ends with flooded apartment

While temperatures are warming up, issues from the extended cold we've experienced are still lingering.

From power outages, to broken pipes from broken water heaters.

A man in Knightdale told WRAL his sister living with disabilities is currently in a flooded apartment and just getting a response from someone after days of waiting.

Marshall Troublefield was visiting his sister on Friday, he found her in an apartment covered in water.

“You can see here we had to put down clothes all over her living room area,” Troublefield said.

The water heater in the adjacent unit broke - flooding the living room, the back yard, damaging other nearby units and flooding the parking lot at Park Place Apartments.

His sister is disabled, making getting up with maintenance difficult.

They called the emergency number at the leasing office five days in a row.

“Obviously we know it was Christmas holiday but the emergency [number] is for emergencies!”

On Tuesday morning, a manager finally called him back and apologized, stating employee shortages as the reason for delays.

Troublefield says the damage worsened everyday.

“Now, the flooring in her home, we put down clothes and blankets, trying to stop the water for moving out," Troublefield said.

"The floor is starting to bubble up that’s gonna be more damage. They may have to bring industrial fans things of that nature trying to fix this that’s gonna cause the light bill to go up. It’s just an inconvenience for someone who is disabled.”

There’s a sign that says closed at the complex. An emergency number is listed on the door but no one has answered or returned our call.
