The wife of Hamilton star Miguel Cervantes posted Sunday that their daughter Adelaide has died after battling epilepsy throughout her short life.

"The machines are off. Her bed is empty," Kelly Cervantes wrote Sunday about her 3-year-old daughter. "The quiet is deafening. Adelaide left us early Saturday. She went peacefully in my arms, surrounded by love. Finally, she is free from pain + seizures but leaves our hearts shattered."

Adelaide was diagnosed with epilepsy at 7 months old, Kelly wrote on her personal blog. She later developed infantile spasms, a severe form of childhood epilepsy.

Miguel landed the starring role of Alexander Hamilton in Hamilton: An American Musical in Chicago that same year.

Kelly used her blog to write about her daughter and their family's struggle with the disease. She leads advocacy and fundraising efforts for children with special needs.

Before Adelaide died, the Cervantes' had a plaster mold made of her hand holding her 7-year-old brother's. "It may be one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen," Miguel wrote on Instagram.
