Raleigh Bike Shop gets backlash and poor reviews over mistaken identity

A Raleigh business with the same name as a bike shop in San Antonio, Texas, started receiving negative reviews online due to a mistaken identity. The owner is now working to control damage and clarify that the two businesses are not affiliated.

Minori-Sanchiz-Fung, the owner of Cycle Logic in Raleigh on Hillsborough Street, says the business has been flooded with 1-star reviews.

"I'm digesting these crazy comments and eventually, I saw one that referenced what everyone was talking about and it was a YouTube video," Sanchiz-Fung said.

They say their top priority is maintaining a great reputation and providing quality service repairs. Their team is working to stop the bad reviews posted due to mistaken identity.

Sanchiz-Fung says many of their customers who visit the shop, have brought up the situation.

However, many local customers like Mikael Gallego are puzzled by the mistaken identity.

"Pretty silly to confuse the Texas and North Carolina stores," Gallego, NC State, said.

A now-viral video shows a customer threatening to sue the owner of Cycle Logic in San Antonio, Texas.

The customer says the owner tried to take his bike after he refused to pay more than $500 for repairs, which was more than double the original estimate of $150.

The mistreatment captured at Cycle Logic in San Antonio led to misdirected comments and threats at the Raleigh bike shop with the same name.

"I never understood what mob mentality is like on the internet and we were just getting a small percentage of what the real shop might be getting and it was really stressful," Sanchiz-Fung said.

Through it all, several local bikers have stepped up to protect the shop brand,

"It was really special to kind of need my customer's help in a way and they showed up and we were all emotional," Sanchiz-Fung said. "It was really sweet."
