Fayetteville high school teacher faces assault charges

A Fayetteville high school teacher is accused of attacking a person at his home with a baseball bat, according to authorities.

Witnesses said Daron Davis, a math teacher at Wilkins High School, demanded four people leave his property on Sunday. They say the dispute stemmed by an Airbnb rental gone bad.

Neighbors said Davis charged out of his Maryland Drive home with a baseball bat, and when the group stepped back on his property, Davis started swinging the bat.

"He just kept telling them to get off the property and they didn't do it," said Kyle McPeak who lives nearby. "He chased them off with a bat. Three of the four of them got hit. One of them got sent off in a stretcher in an ambulance."

Davis was arrested and charged with felony assault. Cumberland County school officials said Davis has been with the school system for two years.

He was suspended with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
