Cumberland County commissioners on Monday gave a couple 30 days to remove their belongings before authorities knock down their home.

Investigators found cockroaches, garbage piled in the bathtub and sewage in the front yard at the home at 3628 Belridge Drive in the Gray's Creek area, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said.

Sheriff's deputies charged the owners, Leroy Thomas, 59, and Pamela Bernadette Thomas, 41, in March with child neglect for allowing their six children to live under those conditions.

The state Department of Social Services took custody of two of the children at the time of the arrest. Tanna said Leroy Thomas took the other four children out of state before authorities closed in.
