Cumberland County Public Utilities has issued a boil water advisory for customers of the Southpoint Water System following a water main break on Wednesday. The advisory is in effect until further notice.

Southpoint Water System says customers may experience low water pressure and service outages, which could lead to backflow and bacterial water supply contamination.

Following the restoration of water service, Public Utilities urges affected customers to boil all water intended for human consumption, including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food. Vigorous boiling for one minute should eliminate any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

Water customers are strongly encouraged to conserve water whenever possible during this time.
