Search suspended for possible drowning victim at Falls Lake

The search for a person who went missing while swimming at Falls Lake has been suspended for the night, officials with the Wake County Sheriff's Office have said.

Eric Curry, Public Information Officer for the Wake County Sheriff's Office said they received a call of a person who went missing while swimming near a rock area of Falls Lake. Witnesses said they saw someone jump into the water near the dam in Falls Lake.

It was unclear who the person was or their age. Curry said the WCSO marine team was deployed, despite low visibility and bad weather. Sonar was used in an attempt to locate the person. Deputies also traveled through wooded areas to assist in the search.

Curry said recovery efforts have been stopped for the night due to weather conditions and will resume Thursday morning. The area was being secured by the sheriff's office.
