Brush fire burns 5 to 10 acres in Wake Forest, off Burlington Mills Road

Fire fighters responded to a fire near the Neuse River in Wake Forest on Wednesday afternoon.

Images from Sky 5 showed heavy smoke coming from a wooded area close to Creek Moss Avenue. A fire truck was seen in the woods. The town said the fire was 5-to-10 acres big.

Battalion Chief Marcus Wells crediting Sky 5 for showing its intensity and location.

"They were helpful in trying to help us locate it and determine the size of the fire," Wells said.

Finding an access point to the wooded area proved to be tricky for responders on scene.

Members of a forestry service -tasked with keeping the fire from growing bigger.

"They're going to start a backfire, which is a fire depending on direction of wind, to help stop the fire growth in one direction," Wells said.

Wells told WRAL News this method proved to be effective in controlling the flames.

No homes or businesses were in danger.

A red flag warning was in effect for some North Carolina counties on Wednesday due to gusty winds and low humidity. Wake County was not part of the warning.

This is a developing story.
