Crews remove stuck tractor-trailer from I-40

Interstate 40 has been reopened after crews removed a stuck tractor-trailer that had gotten stuck in the median early Wednesday.

Police said that the tractor-trailer ran off I-40 West, near U.S. Highway 1, around 2:30 a.m. The truck, which was hauling frozen turkey and ham, ended up stuck between the guardrails in the median. No one was injured.

The wreck report shows that the tractor-trailer was traveling at 55 mph but slowed to 30 mph before impact. It left skid marks 700 feet long.

The driver, Bobby Lee Davis, of Louisburg, was cited for failure to maintain lane control.

The tractor-trailer was left in place during the morning rush hour, but crews started work to move it after 9 a.m., police said.

Two lanes were closed for more than three hours, creating heavy traffic delays into the early afternoon.
