'Felt it across the street:' Large flames shoot from roof of North Raleigh home

A North Raleigh neighborhood woke up to large flames coming through the roof of a multiple-story home early Wednesday morning.

At a least a dozen fire engines could be seen on the 2000 block of Karns Place, not far from Falls of Neuse Road and the Falls Lake area of Raleigh.

"The fire was so strong, I felt it across the street," said WRAL anchor Chris Lovingood, who saw the fire on his way into work.

Large flames could be seen coming from the roof of the home.

According to a fire official, a fire broke out at two homes. The second home had a smaller fire on the side of the house.

A woman could be seen sitting on a curb watching the fire. She had her arm around a little girl, who was holding a dog.

She told WRAL News everyone made it out of the home safely.

Hours after the fire had been put out, WRAL's Sky 5 flew overhead to survey the damage. Nearly the entire roof had been burned away, revealing the wooden beams beneath. The sides of the house had been charred, including the windows of upstairs rooms, which had completely burned away. The back of the home appeared to have sustained the most damage, with even the lower floors looking to be impacted.

The home next door also appeared to have fire damage on one side of the house.

The Red Cross will be helping the family who lost their home in the fire.
