Creedmoor police searching for multiple suspects accused of breaking into 33 vehicles
The Creedmoor Police Department are searching for suspects in a string of robberies in multiple subdivisions.
According to police, four to six people are suspected of breaking into 33 vehicles in the Davenport, Whitehall and Pine Valley subdivisions.
One man, Mike Andreoni, had his truck and his wife's Mercedes broken into. Andreoni was alerted by his neighbor, who alerted police after catching the thieves in the act on his Blink doorbell camera.
The crime happened between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Monday, when Andreoni and his wife were sleeping.
"We don't even lock our cars, I hate to say it," Andreoni said.
There was no damage to Andreoni's vehicles. However, the thieves did steal $15.
"I hate to say it, but they were respectful thieves," Andreoni said. "They could have done a lot worse. They just basically tore everything apart."
Police secured surveillance footage from residents in the affected areas showing a gray, Ford F150, which was potentially stolen in Alamance County, dropping off the suspects in the subdivisions.
Police also determined multiple bank cards were stolen from one of the vehicles, which were used at a CVS in Durham. The suspects also stole a car and drove it to Durham as well.
Andreoni didn't condone what the thieves are, but he understands why they broke in to the vehicles.
"With the price of everything going through the roof, I mean to me, it's all related," Andreoni said. "People are scrounging for what they can. Not saying crime is right, but you're going to see more of it when times are tougher."
Creedmoor police are urging citizens to secure their vehicles by locking their doors, making sure windows up and keeping all valuables out of sight. Police also want citizens to be aware of their surroundings when they are going to or from their vehicles.
