Crash involving wrong-way driver shuts down part of I-440 in Raleigh

A crash on Interstate 440 in Raleigh killed one driver and left the other with serious injuries on Thursday morning.

All lanes of I-440 eastbound were closed between the exits for Interstate 87 and Poole Road while crews respond.

The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. and involved two sedans, one of which was being driven in the wrong direction. Neither person's identity was released by police.

The two cars involved appeared to be badly mangled as police and tow trucks were on the scene.
