Crash causes major delays on I-40 W near Jones Sausage Road

A crash is causing delays on I-40 westbound between Garner and Raleigh during the Tuesday morning commute.

The crash is just beyond the exit for Jones Sausage Road. Originally, 3 of the 5 lanes were closed, but as of 7:30 a.m., only the shoulder is closed.

Backups begin around the Business-70 interchange, with sensors showing delays of up to 40 minutes possible as of 7 a.m.

An ambulance could be seen, and at least three cars seemed to be involved in the crash. One vehicle seemed to have major damage.

Alternate route: Drivers can pick up I-40 W from Jones Sausage Road or Hammond Road to save some time.
