The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Friday warned consumers about BabyRescue Rapid Evacuation Devices sold by Safety International LLC.

Parents and caregivers in possession of the item, which could break during use, creating a fall hazard for children, should dispose of the product immediately, the CPSC stated.

The product, which comes in a red, orange or white bag, is a single-use device meant to be used in emergencies to lower infants and small children under 75 pounds to the ground floor in the event of a house fire or other emergency. The child is supposed to be lowered to safety in the bag, but investigators found the bag can detach from its line, causing the child to fall.

The product is stored in a zip-up carrying bag with “BABYRESCUE” printed on the outside. Some products may contain a small, white “Made in China” tag.

No incidents related to the BabyRescue Rapid Evacuation Device have been reported to the CPSC.

According to the CPSC, Safety International LLC stopped selling the product in December, but the company has not agreed to a recall.
