The YMCA has a new mask policy

On Friday, as a result of rising COVID-19 cases in North Carolina, the YMCA of the Triangle announced a new policy on masks.

Beginning Monday, November 16, masks will be required at all times in YMCA facilities and when indoor fitness takes place.

"As you know, COVID cases in our region continue to rise dramatically each day. We’re making this change to our policy to keep our community safe and to keep our YMCA open to serve you," the organization said in a statement.

Their statement reminded guests to 'remember their Ws,' a reference to the NC Department of Health and Human Services' safety suggestions.

If you leave home, practice your Ws: Wear, Wait, Wash

  • Wear a cloth mask over your nose and mouth.
  • Wait 6 feet apart. Avoid close contact.
  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.

Since the onset of COVID-19, the YMCA has continually adapted programming and safety protocol.

Earlier this week, the CDC updated their policy on masks, as well, stating that masks protect the wearer as well as the people around them.
