Watching your health when pumping gas just as important during virus outbreak

Gas is cheap at many locations these days due in part to the coronavirus outbreak. Many gas stations are taking extra precautions to protect you when you go to the pump.

It’s something we all need, gas to get around. We went to several gas stations and many didn't have hand sanitizer, gloves or anything to protect yourself from all the germs.

At the Mission Valley 66 service station, the staff pumps the gas for customers and disinfects the area to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.

"Gas stations should provide gloves for people to put on when they're pumping gas," Dottie Benz said. "If you're at the pump, wear your gloves, bring gloves with you."

Employees at one station where we visited said they are providing their employees with hand-sanitizing wipes but as for as anything for customers, they’re on their own.

We spoke to another customer who said he actually carries gloves with him in his vehicle because it's better to be safe than sorry. He recommends others do the same.

Harris Teeter fuel stations in the Triangle area do provide disposable gloves at pumps.
