Wake County Public Schools releases grading guidelines in wake of pandemic

Wake County Public Schools has released its grading guidelines for the coronavirus pandemic.

Students taking high school courses can choose either a passing or a numeric grade. They can also choose to withdraw with no penalty. In some cases, they will have an opportunity to improve their grades.

No final exams will be given for anyone.

Students in kindergarten through 8th grade will not be graded for the fourth quarter, officials also said. Students can only be held back if there was written documentation that the process was already underway before schools closed. Otherwise, nobody will fail.

Wake County leaders made a decision about high school graduations last Friday, canceling large-scale in-person graduation ceremonies this spring, but are looking for other ways to celebrate graduating seniors.
