Wake County begins offering appointments for COVID boosters

Starting on Monday, Wake County Public Health is offering new booster shots of the Moderna vaccine at all of their clinics.

The CDC nows recommends this new booster for everyone over the age of 6 months.

The county’s vaccination locations are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Appointments are required.

You do not have to pay for the vaccine if you are insured. This dose won’t automatically be covered since the public health emergency has ended.

UNC Health Infectious Disease Expert, Dr. David Wohl, says this booster is the best way to protect yourself against new variants.

“There are millions of people who are alive today because of vaccines," he said.

Wohl says in previous years, we've always seen a surge in COVID cases as we enter the winter months.

"There's no reason to think that won't happen again," he said.

As we enter the fall and winter months, it's also time for flu and RSV vaccines.

Dr. Wohl says it is safe to get all three vaccines in the same day.

COVID numbers increasing in North Carolina

The latest state health data shows particles in wastewater are up 25% since early September and currently sit at the highest amount we’ve seen since data collected on January 4 of this year.

It is probably a good idea to stock up on some COVID tests, wearing a mask, and to start thinking about when you’ll be signing up to get the latest vaccine, the doctors said.
