US Rep. Deborah Ross says she tested positive for COVID-19

Democratic U.S. Rep. Deborah Ross tweeted Tuesday that she tested positive for COVID-19.

"This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19 & will not be able to vote this week since proxy voting ended," Ross posted. "While I am disappointed to be missing such a consequential week in DC, I support the bipartisan agreement that @POTUS has negotiated to prevent a catastrophic default."

The illness prevented Ross from voting on the bipartisan debt ceiling deal, which is opposed by some Republicans. President Joe Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy assembled a bipartisan coalition to push to passage on a robust 314-117 vote late Wednesday.

With an overwhelming House vote, 314-117, the bill to now heads to the Senate with passage expected by week's end.

In a statement after the vote, Biden called the vote “good news for the American people and the American economy.”

Ross represents North Carolina's 2nd Congressional District.
