Here's the counties with the most COVID-19 hospitalizations per capita

The state reported that more than 1,900 people are in the hospital with COVID-19 on Monday. That number is up 376% compared to last month.

We haven't seen hospitalizations get that high since Feb. 14.

Across North Carolina each day, an average of 189 people who test positive for COVID-19 are being admitted to hospitals.

New data released from the state shows which counties are seeing the most people hospitalized per capita. Over the last two weeks, Scotland, Moore, and Hoke reported the highest daily hospitalization rates.

In Scotland County, an average of 43 residents for every 100,000 required hospitalization for COVID-19 each day. For Moore and Hoke counties, 41 and 27 residents for every 100,000 were admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 every day.

Those three counties also have vaccination rates below the state average, which currently sits at 51% of the state’s population.

But hospitalizations and coronavirus vaccinations are not exactly correlated, according to state data. For example, Orange County has one of the highest vaccination rates in the state, but also is one of the counties with the most daily hospitalizations. An average of 23 people per 100,000 in Orange County require hospital care each day.

Robeson and Surry admit an average of 21 people per capita to the hospital with COVID-19 daily.

Wake and Johnston land on the lower end with an average 7 and 8 people admitted to the hospital per capita, while Durham is closer to the middle with 13 hospitalizations per 100,000.
