The fall semester begins at North Carolina State University on Monday with weekly COVID-19 testing requirements for anyone who isn't vaccinated.

The rule applies to all students, faculty and staff.

Currently, roughly 60% of the campus community has shared proof of vaccination with the university. The remaining students, faculty and staff have been assigned a day for weekly testing at one of seven locations on campus.

Experts say that more than 70% of people should be vaccinated in order for herd immunity to be achieved.

Those who skip more than two tests will face disciplinary action, N.C. State said.

Wake, Durham and Fayetteville Technical community colleges also resume classes Monday, where masks are required indoors for everyone regardless of vaccinations status due to the Delta variant and a spike in cases.

Classes will begin at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Wednesday and at Duke University, where vaccines are required, on Monday, Aug. 23.
