10 COVID-19 cases confirmed within Moore County Schools

Moore County Schools, which has some students learning in classrooms, has confirmed at least 10 cases of coronavirus involving six different schools.

On Monday, a spokesman for Pinecrest High School said there are at least two cases there. One class is being quarantined, but the school district did not say which one because of privacy reasons.

Other affected schools include Southern Middle School (one case), Crains Creek Middle School (one case), Robbins Elementary (two cases), Union Pines High School (two cases) and Vass-Lakeview Elementary (two cases).

The school district said it did a deep cleaning after learning of the positive cases.

Moore County is operating under Plan B, a mix of online and in-person learning, but district leaders say only one-third of students are in school at any one time. Many other counties in the district, including Wake, Durham and Cumberland, decided to keep students learning at home for at least the first few months of school.

Families are notified via email each time a new case is reported, officials said.

Despite the handful of cases, Pinecrest High School will continue to operate under Plan B as normal, officials say.
