Navy: Senior chief dies of COVID-related complications

Senior Chief Petty Officer Michael Haberstumpf, who was stationed at Fort Bragg, died Oct. 10 at UNC Medical Center of complications from COVID-19, the Navy announced Wednesday.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Michael Haberstumpf, who was stationed at Fort Bragg, died Oct. 10 at UNC Medical Center of complications from COVID-19, the Navy announced Wednesday.

Haberstumpf, 42, tested positive for COVID-19 on Sept. 2 and was hospitalized on Sept. 9, according to the Navy.

Haberstumpf's obituary says he had been in the Navy for 16 years, with postings in Washington state, Japan and Guam before Fort Bragg.

Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines is handling the funeral arrangements.

A Go Fund Me link has been established to help his family with expenses.
