Clayton's first Black police officer dies, known as trailblazer within department

The town of Clayton is mourning the loss of its first Black police officer.

Sergeant Alexander Harlee Jr. died earlier this week. He was 80 years old.

Harlee served in the town's police department starting in the 1960s.

Harlee also became the first in the town to use radar to monitor streets. Harlee eventually became the department's first Black officer to earn the rank of sergeant.

A memorial service is planned for this Saturday morning at 11.
