Mary Ann Baldwin, a member of the Raleigh City Council, said Monday that she'd asked the city's lawyers to look into complaints about Club Bodi, the site of two shootings over the past year.

"If there is a record of violations, we can move to shut them down," Baldwin wrote in an email to WRAL News.

Vernon Oneal Jones Jr., 26, of Lillington, died Sunday after being shot about a block from the club.

Police said Jones may have been coming from the club, at 310 S. West St. There was a disturbance inside just moments before he was shot, police said.

Bodi, in a message on its Twitter account Sunday evening, said the shooting was unrelated to the club.

"A shooting took place two city blocks north of the club in a public parking lot and to our knowledge were not patrons nor members of the club and is not related to our business in any way," the statement said.

Last August, Hany Mousa Shehadeh, 35, of Rocky Mount, was shot in the face, and Keshon Oneil Johnson, 23, of Charlotte, was shot in the wrist.

Three men who were working for the club were arrested after those shootings on assault and firearms charges.
