Mecklenburg County is experiencing a recent spike in Mpox cases, according to the county health director.

"In the last couple of months, we've had about 16, 17 cases and there have been more than 120 exposures attached to those cases, including a large number of children," County Health Director Dr. Raynard Washington said on WCNC's Flashpoint.

Recently, local children have been exposed to people carrying the virus, but Washington said they were isolated cases.

Mpox symptoms include a rash or lesion. Anyone experiencing symptoms should consult with a health professional.
