Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts has a new bag policy

A new bag policy designed to improve security went into effect Thursday at a Raleigh performing arts venue.

Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh now requires that all bags brought into the venue be no bigger than 12 inches long, 12 inches wide and 10 inches deep. Preferred bags include small clutches or wallets.

There will be exceptions during family shows, where diaper bags will be allowed for guests with infants and toddlers. Those children must be present at the event. The bags will be searched and tagged.

If you bring a non-approved bag into the venue, security will ask you to return it to your vehicle.

In Durham, a similar policy has been in effect at Durham Performing Arts Center. That venue restricts bags that are 12 or more inches deep. The venue suggests guests only bring small clutch purses.

Exceptions are made for family shows with young children. Diaper bags are allowed for guests with infants and toddlers, but the child must be present.

At PNC Arena in Raleigh, the bag policy varies by event. For Carolina Hurricanes and N.C. State games, clutch or wristlet bags smaller than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches are permitted and not required to be put into the X-ray line. Clear bags, diaper bags and medical bags are also permitted but must pass through the X-ray machine before entry. Tour promoters for each event have different bag policies, so check your event before heading to the arena.

At Red Hat Amphitheater in downtown Raleigh, guests are allowed to bring in clear plastic, vinyl or PVC tote bags (no larger than 12 inches long, 6 inches wide and 12 inches deep) or small clutch bags no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches. If you have an unapproved bag you can either return it to your car or check it at guest services and pay $10 for a clear bag to put your items in.

Since Red Hat Amphitheater and Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek are both Live Nation venues, they have the same bag policies.
