Charlotte shooting: Memorial service held Monday for Sam Poloche, among 4 officers killed

A memorial service on Monday will honor the life of Sam Poloche, one of four law enforcement officers killed April 29 in Charlotte.

Poloche worked for the state Department of Adult Correction for 14 years. He is survived by a wife and two children.

The memorial service, which will be held at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Charlotte, 301 S. Davidson St., will not be livestreamed. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.

Authorities have identified Samuel "Sam" Poloche, Joshua Eyer, William "Alden" Elliot and Thomas M. Weeks, Jr., as the four law enforcement officers who died in Monday's shooting in Charlotte. The four officers in total leave behind families with eight children, including young kids.

A total of eight officers were shot April 29, according to police, and a ninth officer broke his foot, when a suspect opened fire from the upstairs of a Charlotte home.

Poloche and Elliot were officers with the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, Weeks was a U.S. Marshal assigned to the Fugitive Task Force, and Eyer was a 6-year veteran of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

President Joe Biden visited the Queen City in the days after the shooting to meet the families of the four officers behind closed doors. The president also spoke with Johnny Jennings, police chief of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Funerals, processions for Charlotte officers

William "Alden" Elliot: A memorial service with military honors was held Thursday, May 9, at 6 p.m. at the Tarlton Complex on the campus of Catawba Valley Community College.

Joshua Eyer: A memorial service was held Friday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church at 301 S. Davidson St. in Charlotte. The service was livestreamed on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's YouTube and Facebook pages and can be watched here.

Thomas M Weeks, Jr.: A memorial service was held Monday, May 6, at Bojangles Coliseum, located by 2700 E Independence Blvd.

Samuel "Sam" Poloche: A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, May 13, at First Baptist Charlotte, 301 S. Davidson St., Charlotte. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The funeral will not be livestreamed.

On Tuesday night the Charlotte Knights honored fallen officers with baseball caps stenciled "CMPD" and "USMS" on the field.
